Krutch Park - Located directly downtown on Union Avenue adjacent to Market Square in Krutch Park, is this bronze sculpture of William Sergeant. Sergeant was recognized with a special citation by the World Health Organization for his leadership in the global eradication of polio. His efforts overseeing the program within Rotary International for more than 12 years has brought us closer to the reality of a polio-free world, and improved the lives and futures of millions of children. Krutch Park, also features a small stream, a variety of native plants, and lots of outdoor seating for relaxing in the cool peace of nature. The park was begun through a $1.3 donation in 1981 by the Krutch estate. It offers a little bit of paradise, and is the pride of downtown Knoxville.
